Time flies...do you know where it is going?

Do you seem busier than ever, but feel like you can't get anything accomplished?

This problem seems exaggerated by all of these high tech communication tools we use every day. Personally, I struggle with getting my “real work” accomplished while I respond to emails, phone calls, Internet research, and now social media. Even though I know how to manage it, I find it hard to have the discipline needed to spend time working on the "real work" instead of spending time on the “fun stuff”. Get… Continue

Is Your Computer Organized?

Information can get really cluttered in our computers. So often I'll go into a client's office only to find that they will haphazardly have files saved on their desktop, in their "My Documents" folder, or maybe they actually created a folder or two to organize files by type. I'll ask them where a document is and they have no idea.

Electronic File Structure - the Architecture
I think this is a good place to start. Think about how you would be filing a document if you had a physical filing… Continue

Do You Have Discipline in Your Life?

Here are my top ways of having discipline in my life, which keep me organized and you can use as your own checklist.

- Set up systems that work for you (If you need help getting started, email me!).

- Start each morning with some quiet time. You'll get inspirations like topics for newsletters!

- Have a schedule for your day to manage your time. Are you using the 80/20 rule?

- To manage information throughout the day, make a decision, act upon it now or file it for reference.

- At the end of… Continue

Social Networking in 15 Minutes a Day

1. If you have to, set a timer.
2. Create folders for the emails you’ll receive from Facebook and LinkedIn, and then create rules that automatically direct any incoming mail into these folders. Open these folders no more than once a day.

In Facebook

1. For the first four or six weeks, Facebook can be worse than kudzu. Most people get past this phase. Some do not.
2. Use lists to organize your friends. Go to Friends / All Friends / Create new list. Friends and Family. Business. High School. Co-… Continue

Are your receipts taking over your wallet?

A few weeks ago I was travelling and I collected so many darn receipts (even when I'm not travelling I seem to accumulate tons!). It used to be embarrassing for me to have people to see inside my pocketbook or as most other people say, handbag, or purse.

Getting organized with receipts has been a huge personal stress reliever, as it created a process for my personal accountability and a system for my bookkeeping.

If you are like me, you may have found that at the end of running a bunch or erra… Continue

Business Emergency Planning with iPEP

As I sit here through yet another rainy day in NY, it reminds me that rain as necessary as it is, can in very large quantities, wreak havoc. National Disaster Preparedness month is September, but don't wait until then to get planning.

The prospect of preparing for a business-halting event is daunting, but necessary. Not being prepared to react quickly in an emergency can lead to loss of business. iPEP can make it easy.

Small and large businesses alike share some common business issues:… Continue

I've Found Freedom With My iPEP

I took my first vacation last month since having my son (he's now 17 months old). Planning for the trip was a bigger undertaking than any other trip before.

Why? First, I needed to bring the truckload of things that I needed for my son and had to make sure I could remember it all. Then as a small business owner, I was a little nervous about being away and being "out of touch" with my clients and prospects. Finally, the clincher was that we decided to travel without laptops. GULP! (If you know m… Continue

Summer is here, are your travel plans organized?

Well here it is, summer again. If you are travelling this summer, do you have your travel plans organized? I use a desktop filing system (called a SwiftFile) that contains individual folders for the 12 months and 31 days of the month. As I make reservations and receive confirmations, I place all of the documentation into my filing system in the folder for my departure date. If you don't use a system like this, make a hanging folder and label it "Upcoming Travel". You can put your d… Continue

Fit, Functionality and Fitness

No, I haven't switched professions to professional training. Although if you were reading my blog, you'll know that I went to a fitness trainer last week while I was visiting Wilmington, North Carolina. And oh my gosh, it was great, although, I was sore for a few days! Not good timing, as I helped my brother over the Memorial Day weekend move into his new house in Jacksonville, North Carolina. We literally moved a ton of junk out of the house. We have the dump receipt to prove the weight. Man, I… Continue

Can you Accommodate Enough to Collaborate?

I've worked with two companies lately where the idea of collaborating their workspace of information is finally coming together with a solution. They didn't realize the word for what they wanted was collaboration; however, upon working with me they realized that's exactly what they needed.

Even in small offices, you may talk to each other all day long and feel you have a handle on what's going on. However, when it comes to all of your projects, too many times details are missed because informat… Continue
