- As both a Productivity/ADHD Coach and a Professional Organizer, I've been helping individuals who have difficulty the areas of organization and time-management for more than 15 years. Being an SCAC (Senior Certified ADHD Coach) and a Level II Specialist in Chronic Disorganization, I can provide tips, tools and compensatory strategies that work for people who have difficulty with conventional approaches to organization. I also have an extensive business background, having been a VP Marketing, Creative Director, Computer Consultant, Writer, Speaker, New Business and Marketing Consultant, as well as a small business owner and the co-founder of CHADD of NYC (Children & Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) and The A.D.D. I just wanted to thank you for your article that was publised in the Oct/Nov NAPO Newsletter on Strategies to Organize ADD Clients. Being a new organizer, I realize there is so much to learn about the different clients we encounter.
The most challenging client I have had to date has displayed many of the feelings you outline in the "emotional baggage" section. She has never said that she has ADD, maybe she does and doesn't even know it. Maybe she doesn't, but she sure does fit the description and behaviors. Regardless, I will use the tips you recommend in working with her.
She has worked with other organizers in the past who have tried to coach her in the similar approach that I did. We were labeling files and putting them in drawers, and now I see that while those systems work for some, it may not work for her.
I will be approaching work with this client in a much different way thanks to your insights. Thank you so much for sharing this with us all.
